Dolce & Gabbana wowed Milan fashion week with their Sicilian-inspired collection starring intricate wicker bustiers, baroque-sculpture shoes and colourful beach prints.
The collection featured short sun dresses in blue and white stripes that recalled the pattern of a beach umbrella. Then came the more elaborate printed dresses, inspired by the gaily colored decorations of a wooden Sicilian cart. These were accessorized by hoop earrings reminiscent of the wheel of the cart as was the painting on the wedged sandals.
The last dress featured a basket-shaped skirt, inspired by those used traditionally to carry fruit, topped with a sheer black layer. This basket effect was also used on corsets – sometimes worn with trademark black lace. A grand finale saw a pack of models – a signature Dolce trick – in swimwear descend on to the catwalk to applause.
